A total of five hundred provincial judges and court clerks from different
provinces of the country recently concluded a two-month basic computing skills
course from their respective provincial centres.
The official in charge of Training and Supervision at the Supreme Court Emmanuel
Butare confirmed the training and pointed out that the Supreme Court found it
fitting to have most of its provincial judges and clerks trained in computer
skills.
"True the training took place and it was actually aimed at equipping most of our
staff with the necessary computer skills especially now that we are in a
computer age. These judges will find it helpful to have computer knowledge and
it will help us in effecting our reform plans," Butare noted.
He added that the officials were taught basic computing skills like Microsoft
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and how to use the internet.
The training that was carried out by the Kigali-based Computer Technology
Consultant's Information Technology Wing, the CTC Institute, was conducted under
the auspices of PACT Rwanda in conjunction the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, while speaking to The New Times on the sidelines of the training, the
Principal of Computer Technology Consultant's Institute of Information
Technology, Jaffar Bagonza noted that the training was a success.
"We had to do everything possible to ensure the training of the judges goes
according to plan. The institute has centres in each of the 12 provinces
equipped with thirty modern computers; we also employed twenty well qualified
and highly skilled personnel to man the training," he disclosed.
Bagonza further stressed that the institute is well equipped with modern
equipment, fit for the training of a number of students.
"Our services are open to each and everybody, we use modern training equipment
like projectors and state-of-the-art computers fully networked and connected to
a standby generator just in case of power problems," he added.
Bagonza appealed to the Rwandans to utilise the vast opportunities available at
their disposal.
